Description
A lone Kangaroo munches grass while two Currawongs perch in a skeleton tree beside the old Presbyterian church; late afternoon in the historic gold mining town of Hill End in New South Wales. This is the selfsame church immortalised by artist Russell Drysdale in his 1948 painting "Picture of Donald Friend" - https://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/collection/works/8170/ - The town was thriving during the gold rush but the small number of buildings and residents that remain today are just enough to make for a cosy, quiet retreat from the noise and stresses of city life.
